Fire Detection and Warning Systems
Today, there are three types of fire alarm systems: conventional, addressable and wireless.
Conventional systems and addressable systems are among the fire alarm systems that are wired. With the developing technology, wireless models of fire alarm systems have also taken their place in the market.
So what should we consider when choosing between these systems?
What are the differences between them?
First, let's take a brief look at fire detection systems;
Addressable Systems
Addressable fire alarm systems separate the areas where they are installed point by point. In addressable systems, the fire alarm gives the exact location of the fire.
In addressable systems, fire detectors are indicated by their unique electronic addresses and they report situations such as notification or pollution, malfunction, etc. point by point.
Conventional Systems
Conventional Systems are systems that detect on a zone basis. The detectors and buttons in these systems are connected on a single line.
Each floor in the buildings is designed as a zone and only fires on the connected floor can be monitored.
Wireless Systems
In Wireless Systems, as the name suggests, the devices are connected to the control panel wirelessly. The fire alarm is transmitted from the devices to the panel via a radio signal. Wireless Systems, like Addressable Systems, notify the fire alarm point by point
Which System Should I Buy??
When deciding whether to prefer wired or wireless systems when buying a fire detection system, you must first determine your needs.
Criteria such as the area where you will install the fire alarm system and the capacity of the system will be very effective when making this choice.
When choosing a fire alarm system, you can consider the following comparisons and evaluations.
Advantages of Wireless Fire Alarm System
The lack of cable connection in wireless fire alarm systems also provides an important advantage in terms of appearance, as there will be no cutting, drilling, etc. on the walls or ceiling.
In case of damage to the cables connected in wired fire detection and notification systems, the entire system may be affected, but since there is no cable in wireless systems, such a problem is not encountered.
Advantages of a Wired Fire Alarm System
Today, wired fire detection systems are cheaper than wireless fire detection systems. Wired fire alarm systems work with a power supply to which they are connected and make battery backup against power failure.
While wireless systems are seriously affected in cases such as signal confusion and signal interruption, there is no such problem in wired fire alarm systems.
In a wireless fire alarm system, devices such as fire detectors, fire alarm button, fire alarm siren must be at a close distance from the fire control panel. However, this distance can be kept much longer in wired systems. In wired fire detection systems, the devices connected to the panel are much more numerous than wireless systems.
As we have examined above, wired and wireless fire detection and notification systems have both advantages and disadvantages.
